POSITION: ASL Interpreter/Language Coach (2 Positions)
LOCATION: Valley View Elementary
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide quality interpreting services for all educational functions or activities using the mode of
communication specific to the student’s Individual Education Plan.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Accurately and effectively communicate the information between the student who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing using sign language as their primary mode of communication and others who use spoken communication in the educational setting.
• Provide ASL tutoring
• Provide an in-service to the student’s classmates so they can learn the very basics of hearing loss.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Assisting with handling other pertinent activities as directed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• New applicants and current employees out of classification:

AA (or higher) degree or completion of 2 years of secondary education
(72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits).

ETS Test with a score of at least 461

• Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Fluency in American Sign Language required.
• Interpreting certification(s) from or including NAD, RID, EIPA preferred.
• Previous educational interpreting experience in a K-12 setting preferred
