POSITION:  Substitue Health Room Assistant 

 

LOCATION:  Ellensburg School District

 

REPORTS TO:  Principal - School Nurse - Special Services Director

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

This position provides non-medical personnel support to the school nurse for meetings student’s health care needs at school both when the school nurse is present and when she/he is at another assignment.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Ability to positively interact with students, supervisors and staff
  • Works cooperatively in a team situation
  • Provides for the physical, health and safety of students
  • Assures proper lifting of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment: demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance in accordance with safe lifting requirements, as required
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed expectations for acceptable job attendance
  • Knowledge of computer applications
  • Works with the Nurse to facilitate Learn to Return Testing Program.   Will assist with testing services for students, athletes and ESD staff using COVID-19 RAPID or PCR testing, as well as complete data reporting to Washington State.
  • Provides health and emergency aid care to students and staff.
  • Coordinates transportation home for students as necessary, and contacts the School Nurse to advise of the situation.
  • Monitors and maintains immunizations records under the direction of the School Nurse.
  • Assists with special needs students in performing tube feedings, catheterization and attending changes as needed under the guidance and supervision of the School Nurse.
  • Administers medications and maintains appropriate documentation under the supervision of the School Nurse.
  • Inputs student health data into the computer.
  • Assists with hearing and vision screening processes.
  • Records accident reports.
  • Notifies building principal when there is a suspected child abuse incident.
  • Performs general record keeping, filing, data entry and reporting processes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the School Nurse.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Previous professional health care related experience preferred.
  • Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.
