REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Director
JOB SUMMARY: Provide Child Nutrition services to our students and staff by preparing and serving meals according to USDA, OSPI and Health Department regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operating, maintaining and cleaning equipment, machinery and appliances (i.e., mixer, oven, stove, steamer, freezer, food warmer steam table), and reporting equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order.
- This position is responsible for preparing entrée items, in accordance with NSLP and department standardized recipes, for district and EHS menu cycles. At times the position is required to produce entrée items for middle school meal service due to logistic and/or equipment needs.
- Preparing all types of food; cooking and seasoning food according to recipes; mixing ingredients and adding condiments according to standardized recipes, or as directed; testing cooked food to ensure it is properly cooked and seasoned; and portioning products for service.
- Preparing foods from a raw (uncooked) nature to a fully cooked product in accordance with standardized recipes and/or under the direction of the Food Services Director/Kitchen Manager.
- Communicating proper portion sizes of items/meals to front line employees as to prevent over or under service of items to ensure compliance with NSLP and SBP regulations in accordance with HHFKA2010.
- Serving food items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
- Inspecting food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications or orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements.
- Cleaning and organizing utensils, equipment, and storage and food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions.
- Maintaining an inventory of dry storage, refrigerated and frozen food, condiments, etc., for the purposes of ensuring availability of items as specified on the menu, and ordering supplies as needed.
- Verify and stock delivery of supplies and equipment from vendors as needed
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records in regard to products cooked, recipes used, and leftovers, and providing timely reporting of the activities to the Food Services Director.
- Preparing production reports related to meals served and reconciling cash receipts for the purpose of documenting the sales and activities within the site cafeteria.
- Providing assistance to other Food Services personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective working environment.
- Providing assistance as required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective working environment, or as directed by the Food Services Director/Kitchen Manager.
- Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Food Handler’s Permit
- Must have or obtain ServSafe Certification within 90 days of hire
- As the job functions will require repetitive lifting and stretching motions, you must be able to pass doctor’s physical examination (physical must be current - within the past 90 days) showing that you have the ability to:
- Lift and carry 10 to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
- Assist with lifting over 75 lbs on an occasional basis
- Load and unload products from vehicles of various heights from 3 to 5 feet
- Use push and pull methods to move products around work area
- Store products requiring arm extension, straight and overhead reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, twisting, and turning
- Use repetitive motions involved with food preparation and cleaning processes, including using hands and wrist repeatedly for grasping, cutting, and lifting food and equipment, and taking fully loaded trays of food in and out of commercial size ovens
- Work from an awkward position to accomplish cleaning of equipment
- Be on feet the majority of the work shift
- Be of general good health
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior job related experience (3 years minimum) in commercial kitchen food preparation, serving, and basic kitchen activities
- Skills to perform basic arithmetic calculations, maintain inventory control, use standard office equipment including computer, and communicate effectively
- Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles, nutritional requirements and the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs
- Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-disciplined, and a self-starter
- Ability to work efficiently and independently, take initiative, recognize and adjust priorities as needed, and meet strict deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to produce, organize and maintain accurate records
- Bilingual skills preferred
