POSITION: ASL Interpreter (2 Positions) Full and Part Time Positions Available
LOCATION: Valley View Elementary
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide quality interpreting services for all educational functions or activities using the mode of
communication specific to the student’s Individual Education Plan.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Accurately and effectively communicate the information between the student who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing using sign language as their primary mode of communication and others who use spoken communication in the educational setting.
- Provide ASL tutoring
- Provide an in-service to the student’s classmates so they can learn the very basics of hearing loss.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Assisting with handling other pertinent activities as directed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- New applicants and current employees out of classification:
AA (or higher) degree or completion of 2 years of secondary education
(72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits).
ETS Test with a score of at least 461
- Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluency in American Sign Language required.
- Interpreting certification(s) from or including NAD, RID, EIPA preferred.
- Previous educational interpreting experience in a K-12 setting preferred
